Make a Headband (for sweatin’)

Here's to lookin' pretty while sweatin' off your New Year's resolution.

I can't wait to get started, so let's go…

I used two types of terry cloth. The flowery fabric is a softer, smoother terry cloth, and the plain light pink fabric is regular terry cloth like your bath towel.

Cut the flowery terry cloth 21.5" x 2.5" and the pink terry cloth 20.5" x 1". Cut a 4 inch length of 1/2" elastic. This length may vary depending on your head size. For this project, the head size I used was 21.5".

Lay the flowery fabric face down with the pink fabric centered on top.

Fold the edges over and pin in place. Sew with a zigzag stitch to allow the material to maintain some stretchability (is that a word?).

Fold in the ends and sew. Cut away any excess material. I wondered if the raw edges would unravel when washed, but they didn't.

Center and sew the elastic to both ends of the underside of the headband. I used a zigzag stitch here too, but it's not necessary. A straight stitch will work just fine. After sewing the first end of the elastic down, put it around your head to figure out where to sew the other end of the elastic. Cut away the excess elastic.

Hopefully this motivates you to head to the gym! Would you wear a sweatband? Or is it not cool, even with a pretty print?

The Real Deal: It cost me less than $3.00 to make this headband.

Go and be pretty,
